What’s better than networking with learning professionals from around the world and collaborating with your learning tech provider’s executive and software development team? Meeting with them face-to-face in sunny San Diego!

That’s where this year’s ExpertusONE Users Summit was held and it proved to be an inspiring event. Here are a few of my highlights and key takeaways.

Setting the Scene

The event kicked off with a sunset cruise on the beautiful San Diego Bay. The scenery was stunning and the atmosphere relaxed. It was the perfect environment to meet and mingle with Summit participants, and set the tone for the networking to come.

The Right Technology/Real-World Mix

A true standout of the week were the customer presentations. Jim Dorris, the VP of Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability at United Rentals, discussed how they’re using VR to train operators on potentially dangerous equipment in a safe environment. And Ben Butina, the Sr. Manager, Global Training & Development at Elliott Group, explained how they’re creating hypothetical “personas” for specific job roles to better anticipate their learning and engagement needs.

When mixed with ExpertusONE product presentations by Expertus’ CEO Ramesh Ramani and CTO Murali Murugan, and an Expertus direction and roadmap session by COO Mohana Radhakrishnan, it was the right blend of technology review and real-world applications.

Speed Networking & Collaborating Poolside

Leading into the user conference, the #1 request by registrants was for ample networking opportunities—and the Summit delivered. There was a poolside happy hour, with delicious drinks, hors d’oeuvres and engaging conversations. A speed networking session where conference goers rotated from table to table participating in open discussions on key learning trends and challenges. And, even after the Summit finished, many attendees were seen on the town, still collaborating over dinner in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter.

Introducing ExpertusONE Admin Certification

An exciting addition to this year’s users conference was the first ExpertusONE LMS Admin certification. Held on-site, most of the admins tested received their certification and many are already sharing their Certified ExpertusONE Admin logos on social media.

The Final Takeaways

For attendees, the biggest takeaway was the opportunity to hear and learn from other customers. They also valued getting know and directly communicating with Expertus’ leadership, such as SVP of Sales Tim Armstrong who has a wealth of learning industry experience and insight. Having Expertus’ key decision makers (Ramesh, Mohana, Tim and Murali) all in one place helped attendees make an immediate impact on Expertus and ExpertusONE’s direction.

As for Expertus, the key takeaway was to build on the Summit’s dialogue by ramping up product communications—i.e. what we’re doing and what’s up next—so customers can optimally plan their business around our LMS solution.

All in all, both the conference and social events were well attended, and you couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting.
